Finding the perfect lighting for your office while working from home during Lockdown 3.0

As of January 2021, the UK were put in yet another national lockdown, with most people working from home for the foreseeable future.

You now have a makeshift office in your home, but you are still struggling to work, as the lighting is not quite right. Lighting is vital for your productivity; it helps to reduce eyestrain, headaches and migraines, and tiredness.

So, we have come up with some handy tips to help you choose the correct lighting to help with your productivity while working from home.

Avoid the spotlights!

When you are working from home, you know how difficult it can be to get your computer monitors just right, to avoid glare, even from natural light. You get your monitors to that right level, but notice it is a bit dark, so turn on your light. BOOM! The glare is back and is worse than before! You try again to adjust your monitor, but nothing is changing.

Glare and contrast are 2 major factors that need to be taken into consideration when choosing lighting, and spotlights are a no-no. Spotlights can create harsh shadows, which can then put strain on your eyes. You need to avoid the glare of overhead lights and choose something more soft and subtle to help you work comfortably. Floor lamps or subtle wall lights will add that ambiance to your office, adding just enough light for you carry out your tasks, but not too bright that leaves you tired and with a headache.

Take style into consideration.

The quality of the light in your office is important for you to work productively, but also how the light looks aesthetically is also just as important. Take pride in your new office space and choose a light which looks good in both style and design, and one that will complement your space perfectly.

Trendy ceiling lights or classic wall lights can help to complete your office space perfectly.

Tackle one task at a time.

To be productive, it is best to tackle one task at a time. Get rid of all other distractions and stay focused on that one task you are doing, whether it be on your computer or a writing task which takes up all your concentration.

To be able to concentrate on this task, you will need the perfect light source, with just the right light to be able to see what you are doing, but not too much so you lose your concentration, or even too dark so you cannot see what you are doing! Having a desk lamp or floor lamp can help to illuminate your space, but which is not too bright that it will blind you, or too dark. A lot of modern lamps have different modes of lighting, so you are certain that you will be able to find the perfect ambiance to finish that all important task.

Attention to detail.

Choosing decorative or statement lighting can make a huge difference in your office and can add that touch of character too! By choosing lighting that can change the mood of the room, such as a few wall lights dotted around the room, strip lights around the underside of your desk or shelving, or a subtle desk lamp can help to highlight areas of the room and provide the right type of lighting for you to work comfortably.

Lots of people are going to be remote working indefinitely, so why not make the most of your office space to ensure you can be as productive as possible. By choosing the right lighting can help lift your mood, help you to be more creative, and also help you to plan the decoration for rest of your work space to make it your own personalized office.
